trollcat

every troll face on the internet was a cat wearing someone else's grin. this pad is where that gets sorted out, one page at a time.

the pages

A hand drawn black and white trollface redrawn as a cat, huge toothy grin, slit eyes, two triangular cat ears

drew the grin first. the ears came after, once it was clear what this was.

The same trollface cat crammed into a cardboard box far too small for it

box was too small. sat in it anyway, the way a cat does.

The same trollface cat standing on a laptop keyboard, typing

it is typing something. nobody asked what.

The same trollface cat sitting inside an empty food bowl, not for sitting

the bowl is for food. it is not for sitting. it is sitting.

The same trollface cat sprawled across an open newspaper

spread across the whole page, right over the headline.

The same trollface cat, full body, knocking a glass off a table, on a wide fold out page

needed extra paper for this one. the glass did not make it.

the pen

a note in the margin

the trollface was carlos ramirez's 2008 doodle. white face, huge grin, slit eyes, the internet's favorite troll for the better part of two decades. nobody ever drew what was under it. turns out it was a cat the whole time, ears and all, and once you see them you cannot unsee them.

this pad is his. every page just proves it again.
